Choosing a Lawyer
You or a family member were hurt or killed in an accident and you need a lawyer. How do you find the best lawyer to help you?
First, let me tell you about the lawyer you want, and later I will share with you some suggestions on finding that lawyer. The lawyer you want must SPECIALIZE AND ONLY HANDLE PERSONAL INJURY AND WRONGFUL DEATH MATTERS. Automatically eliminate from consideration any attorney who handles more than one area of the law. If an attorney is good enough at what he/she does, the word is out and has the business to specialize. The insurance companies that deal with lawyers day in and day out know who the best lawyers are. Insurance companies also know who the best are because of the lawyer’s jury verdicts and the quality work-up they do on the cases that settle.
It is a simple fact in this area of the law, “THE BETTER THE LAWYER, THE BIGGER THE SETTLEMENT OR JURY VERDICT.”
How do you find the best lawyer? It goes without saying that the best attorneys’ names are not on bus ads or TV ads. There was a well seen television and print ad that stated in part, “My lawyer got me $ ” Our joke in our firm was that if got him $2.1 million, then we could have gotten him $10 million!
When attempting to find a personal injury specialist, Google is a good place to start, but remember the firm at the top of the list (maybe even those on the first page) may be paying for every click to their website. Do not stop looking after the first page. If you know a lawyer you trust, ask him/her for a referral to a personal injury specialist.
Don’t be afraid to interview two or three different firms. Who impresses you the most? Who has the best results in trial? Don’t be afraid to ask. Who do you feel most comfortable with?
The lawyer you choose will have a great affect on the result in your case. It is too important a decision not to make carefully.
All lawyers are not created equal!
